The Soul of the Net

Bookmark this page and visit it again soon. The Soul of the Net is a home for Real Soul Music on the net: discographies, sounds, information, trivia, CD, vinyl and video reviews, and links to all other soul sites I know of.

The Soul of the Net was initiated in 1997 as one of the first soul sites on the Internet. Since then, I've added about two million text characters and about a thousand sound files. I've included discographies of around 40 of my favourite soul artists, each with some of my favourite sounds by the artist. I've received a lot of help and a lot of encouraging mail from you - more than a thousand e-mail messages to the site over the years.

Nowadays I don't have time to update the site as often as I'd like to, but still you can expect an update once or twice a month. There are several more thousand records I'd like to feature, and dozens of artists I've yet to add; and I keep discovering more soul sounds, so there will never be shortage of material for this site - and hopefully as time goes by it will grow even wider and cover more of the wonderful world of soul music.

Note: The Soul of the Net includes sound bites that are not digital copies of recorded works but considerably downgraded representations of the sounds. The aim of these is to demonstrate the sounds, in order to promote the interest in this music and consequently promote the buying of original copies of the recordings, on vinyl or on CD. The sound bites are not meant to, and their low quality does not permit them to, serve as a replacement for the original recording.
